A day in the life of Daniela Hernandez

7:30am. Here we go, another regular Thursday. This is, without a doubt, the busiest day of the week for me; I’ll love it.

Every week as part of my art history class at CUPA we meet at a museum to see the works we studied during our Tuesday session. So, today we are meeting at 9am in the Musée d’Orsay. If I feel like it I will stay a little longer to check out some of the works we didn’t go over in the class. If not, I’ll go with my friends from the program to a nearby café to grab a bite and chat about our recent museum experience or catch up on what is going on in our lives. I will hop on the metro to get to Centre Malesherbes-La Sorbonne for my Italian class at 1pm, but before, I have to make sure to grab a 3€ sandwich with ham, chèvre cheese, and tomatoes from the university’s cafeteria. It will literally give me life. Then in class I will most likely learn about Italian cinema, politics or food culture, not sure…who knows what the prof will come up with today. At 3pm I will go over to Place des Vosges in the Marais, the place that made me fall in love with Paris. Walking around the area, I’ll take some pictures for my Film Photography class and, with that, get one of my assignments done in order to enjoy the upcoming weekend. A visit to Place des Vosges means I will probably end up at Carrete to have the most amazing hot chocolate in the world while I read my book. I have to make sure I go before 6pm so that I can also get a pastry as part of the L’heure du thé special. Finally, I will head over to my home stay in the 13th arrondissement to call my family back home in Costa Rica and have dinner with my host mom.

The funny thing is that early in the morning this is what I think the next hours will look like, but Paris is always full of surprises. So by the middle of the day, I might change my plans because of weather, because “I’m not mood” or because something else on my way catches my attention. That’s the beauty of it. Paris transforms even the most regular Thursday into an adventure. There’s always something great waiting just around the corner and I never know what it’s going to be. So, yeah, no wonder I love it.

Oh nooo, not again, it’s 7:45 already!!! Need to hurry up now, don’t want to miss a minute of it.
