Living abroad is an eye-opening experience that encourages communication and understanding in an increasingly globalized world. Navigating the nuances of and learning about an unfamiliar culture is an important aspect of study abroad that is best approached through close interaction with the host country and locals. Your choice of housing will have an important impact on how you discover Paris, perfect your French, and learn about French culture.
Students may choose between a homestay with a French family or independent living arrangements. We encourage you to contact Tary Coppola in the U.S. office to learn more about what to expect from a homestay.

CUPA-Sponsored Housing
Living with a carefully selected French family is a privileged form of housing that provides students with the opportunity to establish personal relationships, use French intensively and be immersed in French culture and traditions on a daily basis. The homestay is a valuable resource allowing for true integration into a neighborhood, life in Paris, and French culture in general. Students electing this option complete a detailed questionnaire to assist CUPA in assuring a mutually rewarding match between the host family and the student. Students receive breakfast daily and share five evening meals per week with their hosts. The host family also provides towels and bedding, and the student’s laundry will be done once a week.
CUPA’s host families are located throughout Paris and are as diverse as its student body. They are an important resource for navigating the nuances of French culture and for adapting to the city. CUPA strongly encourages this housing option. Some home universities may require their students to live with a host family.
Independent Living Arrangements
Independent housing can be a good option for students who prefer to have their own space, as well as for students who plan to have overnight visitors during the semester. Students who choose this option are responsible for finding and securing their housing, as well as for any related costs and commitments that may arise from their choice. CUPA is happy to provide tips on how to best find independent accomodations in Paris.
Paris housing is expensive and while it is possible to find apartments at a reasonable cost, it can take time. Therefore, students who intend to search for apartments should arrange for their housing prior to the beginning of Orientation. CUPA strongly discourages apartment shares with English speakers.
