CUPA Summer is open to students with previous background in French and strong motivation. Classes are held at CUPA, next to the Luxembourg gardens, within walking distance to the Quartier Latin. Research facilities include study areas and a computer room at the center, and access to the Bibliothèque François Mitterrand as well as numerous other libraries (Bibliothèque Historique de la Ville de Paris, Beaubourg, etc.)
Students take 2 full-semester credit courses (60 contact hours each, for a total of 120 contact hours)
A language pledge is signed by all participants and must be respected for the duration of the program: students are required to speak only in French both at CUPA and during all program-sponsored activities and in their homestays.
Clint Ross, Colby College, Summer 2014 — I expected CUPA to be a work-intensive program that also gave us ample time to profit from living in Paris in the summertime…I would say this describes my experience perfectly!
Students have a private room in the home of one of CUPA’s carefully selected host families, receive breakfast daily, and share 5 evening meals per week with their hosts. Students may, however, opt for independent housing if desired.
Dates and fees
The dates for CUPA Summer 2016 are May 29-July 9 (six weeks). The program fee is $8760 and includes tuition for 2 credit-bearing courses, host family housing, transportation pass (Navigo) for the duration of the program, a museum pass, and all program-sponsored cultural activities and outings.
Students who wish to pursue special interests while in Paris such as research or advanced fine arts or music projects may contact CUPA to examine the possibilities of a tailor-made study program suited to their specific needs. For very advanced students, the required language course may be waived upon review.
